She rejected marriage proposals and \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003edistributed her wealth among the poor, which angered a\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003esuitor who denounced her as a Christian to the \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eauthorities. Persecuted for her faith, Lucy was subjected to \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003evarious tortures, including having her eyes gouged out. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eTherefore, she is recognized as the patron saint of the \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eblind and visually impaired. To commemorate her\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003epatronage we have incorporated braille into our design \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003ewith the words \"St. Lucy, Pray for Us\" written at the top of \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003ethe sock. Each year on December 13th, the Feast of St. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eLucy, vibrant celebrations and rituals take place. Adorned \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003ein a white gown with a wreath of candles on her head, a \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eyoung girl is chosen to portray St. Lucy, leading a \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eprocession of maidens dressed in white, symbolizing \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003epurity and illumination.
